Oboe reeds are handmade from start to finish with a series of stages over a period of several days. This process ensures that each reed is stable, reliable, and will not warp. Cane is gouged on a Gilbert gouging machine, shaped on the Caleb shaper tip, and finished on a 47mm natural cork tube. All reeds are tuned to A=440.
*Upon request, whole orders of reeds may be tuned differently
English horn reeds are handmade with a similar process, shaped on a Mimi shaper tip (fairly wide, but not as wide as a Falstaff, with a narrow throat to keep the upper octave "up"), and fitted with an aquarium tubing seal. I personally don't use wires and don't recommend them as they can alter the sound of the reed, but will put them on any reed by request.
