
Born and
raised in Houston, Texas, Christine Massey started the oboe at the age
of 11. She attended the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts
in Houston and continued on to receive her Bachelor of Music from the
University of Michigan and Master of Music from the University of Texas
at Austin. Her teachers include Nancy Ambrose King, Rebecca Henderson,
Carolyn Hove, and Linda Gilbert. Christine made her concerto debut at
age 16 as winner of the Texas Music Teachers Association concerto
competition and has since performed in such venues as Carnegie Hall,
Walt Disney Concert Hall, and in England, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium,
and France.
Christine is currently based in LA working as a freelance musician and
teaching private lessons and reed-making. As a performer she has
performed with the San Diego Symphony, Austin Symphony Orchestra,
American Youth Symphony, San Angelo Symphony, Brazos Valley Symphony and
Chorale, and served on the staff of the Austin Chamber Music Center in
Austin, Texas and as guest artist/clinician at several high schools, including the Idyllwild Arts Academy in Idyllwild, CA. Currently, Christine is 2nd oboe with the American Youth Symphony of Los Angeles, CA and adjunct oboe professor at Mt. San
Antonio College in Walnut, CA and Fullerton College in Fullerton, CA.
